Currently Orange provides Internet to its existing subscribers at a cost of £4.98 per month. Any other individual interested in availing of the services can do so by paying merely £7.50 per month. In fact a connection for mobile broadband and laptop is easily available for £25 per month. The high level of competition in the UK market, which seems to be reducing prices every year, has lead to such low prices.
A study by Ofcom found that the cost of the least expensive mobile phone service in the UK has gone down by close to 10percent while the cost of the least expensive broadband has dipped by 15percent between July 2008 and July 2009.
Ofcom also compared the cost of Internet and mobile facilities in the UK with the same in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the US by dividing the subscribers in five groups and found that the UK provides the cheapest facilities.
In fact Italy, which is just lagging behind the UK in ranking, has facilities like fixed line phone, mobile phone, pay-TV and Internet 28percent more expensive than Britain. The price in other countries is even higher. Thus, it seems that the growing competition in the market has helped the UK subscribers in getting good facilities at much lower prices.
